Thursday & Friday evenings are usually reserved for marae activities, however booking inquiry is still welcome via the “Send Message” button.
Mataatua Marae, located on land donated by Ngāti Whakaue in the early 1900s for Tūhoe descendants, holds immense cultural significance for the Tūhoe people. Throughout the 1950s, the marae served as a vital meeting place for Tūhoe and Ngāti Whare members who had migrated from Te Urewera to work in Rotorua. Following a comprehensive restoration of the mahau and wharekai, the marae has recently reopened its doors, ready to welcome and support generations of Tūhoe with the traditional values of manaakitanga towards family, tribe, and the wider community.

For the 2nd time we have used your Marae. Very presentable, clean with a big kitchen and a big space to move around freely while preparing food and doing the dishes. We just loved the layout.
Marae and Hall are so clean and well kept. Crockeries are clean, tidy and dusts free..
Just one concern is the bathrooms do not have good drainage to stop the water from overflowing to the toilets in the Tane’ s toilets and bathrooms. Apart from the above mentioned. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, its kids friendly, convenient to most of us and we just love the big spaces in the kitchen.
Plenty of car parking spaces as well and very well secured.
