Koutu (Kārenga) marae can be found in the Koutu area of Rotorua Lakes. It is affiliated with Ngāti Karenga of Te Ure o Uenukukōpako, with the ancestral house known as Tūmahaurangi, who is the sibling of Whakaue-Kaipapa, the renowned ancestor of Ngāti Whakaue. The marae has ancestral ties to the Te Arawa waka and the Utuhina river.

The new dining hall, Karenga, is contemporary and features a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, accommodating between 250 – 350 guests. Updated restroom facilities have been added, including amenities for individuals with disabilities. Situated just minutes from town,Koutu provides easy access to Rotorua’s main sports facilities and conveniences. Manuhiri, can also enjoy the renowned Waiariki spa, geothermal attractions, and rich historical heritage of the hapu and iwi in the vicinity.

Koutu Marae frequently accommodates overflow from Ohinemutu. Numerous groups are privileged to stay at Koutu, which is highly recommended as one of Rotorua’s top cultural destinations.
